Big Dance, British Council and Channel 4 in association with BAFTA are delighted to announce a second series of Big Dance Shorts, this time focusing on the creative relationship between Brazil and the UK.
Five commissions will be selected to be broadcast on Channel 4 next summer and screened to live audiences across the UK and Brazil during Big Dance Week 2014, which will run from 5-13 July 2014.
Each film will reflect a UK-Brazilian collaboration, either by way of the citizenship or residency of the collaborators – be they film-makers, choreographers, performers or composers – or in the theme of the film but the relationship between dance and film must be at the heart of each of the film idea.
The five Big Dance Shorts commissions will be shortlisted by a panel of experts drawn from UK/Brazil’s film and dance worlds with final selection made during the Rio International Film Festival. The jury includes Tabitha Jackson, Commissioning Editor for Arts at Channel 4, Gitta Wigro producer, Tricia Tuttle, Senior Manager, Film and Skills Programme at BAFTA, MJW Productions LTD, Dança Em Foco, Briony Hanson, Director of Film for British Council, Jacqueline Rose, Director of Big Dance and choreographers and film directors to be announced.
The deadline for proposals is Sunday 1 September and the winning films will go into production this autumn with the full support of experienced industry experts, providing an exciting new platform for choreographic and directorial talent on screen.
The completed films will be broadcast in the UK on Channel 4 during Big Dance Week as part of the Random Acts strand and in Brazil will in summer 2014 before going on to numerous screenings as part of Big Dance’s nationwide programme of events.
