Editors are often portrayed as quiet people working in dark rooms but that's a myth: they are modern adventurers who travel on the other side of the looking glass. They become the characters, reverse tides or flip mountains at the press of one finger and weave together the film from the threads of the rushes. They were invented by cinema but without them there would be no films: they are the Jedis of the Silver Screen!
This autumn BAFTA will be celebrating the craft of Editing with a series of masterclasses showcasing a range of world-class post-production talent. Kicking off on Friday 20 September in Bristol with a BAFTA Crew Masterclass at Encounters Short Film Festival with Fish Tank editor Nicolas Chaudeurge, who also helped devise the season. The series will continue through November with masterclasses from Supervising Sound Editor Joakim Sundström who recently worked Peter Strickland’s award-winning Berberian Sound Studio on Friday 8 November at York Theatre Royal at Aesthetica Short Film Festival and legendary editor Tony Lawson will be at the BFI Southbank on Friday 15 November, whose credits include collaborations with Stanley Kubrick, Nic Roeg, Sam Peckinpah and his long-standing collaboration with Neil Jordan. The series culminates at the ICA on Wednesday 27 November with Seven Psychopaths editor Lisa Gunning.
