South African actress Charlize Theron started out as a model before moving to Hollywood to pursue an acting career. In 2003 she made waves playing the real-life serial killer Aileen Wournos in Monster, a role that earned her an Oscar and the first of two BAFTA nominations. She earned her second for 2005's North Country. She recently starred in Young Adult, written by Juno's Diablo Cody, and will star in Ridley Scott's forthcoming film Prometheus.

Monster was my first experience dealing with something that was so real. I didn't quite believe I was capable of doing it.

On Saturday 12 November, Theron spoke to Francine Stock about her career so far. In the full video, available to watch now on BAFTA Guru, she talks about how her early ballet training has informed her approach to acting. She discusses her major screen breakthrough Monster, and recounts the extensive preparation and research the role required. She also talks about her own idea of 'spirituality', and how travelling and appreciating other cultures plays an integral part.
