Gagandeep's Story

22 year old Gagandeep Kalirai was awarded a scholarship of £5,000 from BAFTA to study for an MA in Directing Animation at the National Film and Television School, after completing her BA in Animation at the University of Creative Arts, Farnham.

“To be given such an opportunity has greatly bolstered my morale and I feel that my future ambitions are no longer unreachable, but attainable and able to be realised to their fullest capacity. I feel proud to call myself a BAFTA Scholar.”

As well as removing the financial barriers from Gagandeep’s studies, BAFTA provided her with a dedicated mentor, film and television director Philippa Lowthorpe (Three Girls, The Crown, Call the Midwife). Gagandeep and Philippa have formed a special relationship and she says that there is nothing quite like sitting down with someone who has so much experience and knowledge in filmmaking.
