TV Preview: My Grandparents’ War

Monday, 11 November 2019 - 7:00pm
The May Fair Hotel, Stratton St, Mayfair, London W1J 8LT
To commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the start of World War Two, Helena Bonham Carter, Mark Rylance, Kristin Scott Thomas and Carey Mulligan explore their grandparents’ extraordinary stories for Channel 4.

We will be screening a part from each episode followed by a Q+A with Helena Bonham Carter, Kristin Scott Thomas, Carey Mulligan and executive producer Tom Anstiss.

Each actor had close and loving relationships with their grandparents. But like millions of others, their grandparents rarely spoke about the war and the scars it left.  The actors travel the globe to meet the last survivors, speak to descendants with a shared history and talk to people from all sides of the conflict. From the beaches of Dunkirk to POW camps in the Far East, they each learn about the life and death decisions their grandparents had to make.

Confronting the terrors their families’ faced and the threats they encountered, they uncover the sacrifices all our grandparents made and learn how World War Two changed their families’ lives forever.

My Grandparents’ War delivers a fresh and compelling biographical insight into some of the Britain’s leading actors and is a moving reminder of how bravery, love and self-sacrifice prevailed in the face of tragedy. Produced by Wild Pictures and commissioned by Fatima Salaria, Head of Specialist Factual at C4. The four-part series is produced by Leo Burley and executive produced by Tom Anstiss and Paul Hamann
