BAFTA Selects give the opportunity for well-known screen personalities to select a BAFTA winning/nominated film or TV programme and discuss how this has inspired them. This year we are tying in with our photographic exhibition Female Firsts and inviting exceptional women to take part.
We are delighted to welcome Meera Syal who has chosen the comedy classic, When Harry Met Sally (1989).
Actor, writer and comedian Meera Syal is one of our best-loved comedy performers (Goodness Gracious Me) and was BAFTA nominated for her TV performance in The Kumars at No.42. A successful screenwriter and author, Meera is currently starring in Abi Morgan’s BBC TV drama The Split.
Nora Ephron’s When Harry Met Sally is an on-screen masterclass in comedy writing. Ephron was the first woman to win a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay; the film also picked up a Best Film nomination for director Rob Reiner. The first in a trio of successful romantic comedies penned by Ephron and starring Meg Ryan (Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail) it also stars comedy great, Billy Crystal.
Your ticket includes access to view our current Female Firsts exhibition - celebrating some of the pioneering women that have defined BAFTA and the art forms of the moving image through the decades, with previously un-exhibited photography alongside video footage from BAFTA’s archive.
