London Indian Film Festival- The Guru Lounge

16 June 11

LIFF 2011 - The London Indian Film Festival (30 June - 12 July), in partnership with BAFTA and Skillset, will be holding industry events to help UK based film makers navigate their way around the Indian film industry. The Guru Lounge is an intimate social space whereby experts from India and the UK will share their knowledge and experience, in a series of informal conversations that encourage audience participation. They will be held in the BAFTA Bar, for a maximum of 20 people per session and will run on consecutive mornings from 5 - 8 July (10 - 11.30am.) Please note that the legal/tax session will be in the form of one-to-one surgeries, for which prior booking is essential.

Tuesday 5 July, 10 - 11.30am : MEET THE ACTORS
Scottish born Ferena Wazeir (Colours of Passion, screening in LIFF 2011) and Londoner Armaan Kirmani (Patiala House) are two young British actors who are beginning to make a name for themselves in Indian cinema. Ask them how they did it!

Wednesday 6 July, 9.30 - 11.30am, - MEET THE LEGAL EAGLE

Dina Dattani is a respected Mumbai based film lawyer who advises international companies wishing to work in India (including Fox Searchlight & Warner Bros.) She is also one of the architects of the India-UK co-production treaty. Dina will hold a series of individual, 20 minute surgeries to discuss your Indian film project. Sign up and come prepared!

Thursday 7 July, 10 - 11.30am : MEET THE MAN FROM RELIANCE

Patrick von Sychowski is Head of Strategy for Reliance Mediaworks, one of India’s leading film and entertainment companies. He has global responsibility for a range of activity including digital cinema, restoration and image processing, 2D-to-3D conversion and other 'sunrise' areas of growth.

Friday 8 July, 10 - 11.30am : MEET THE FILM MAKER

Award winning film maker Anurag Kashyap (writer/producer Udaan, Un Certain Regard, 2010) has the reputation of being the enfant terrible of Indian cinema. He is also a mine of information on co-producing with India, having worked closely with, amongst others, Danny Boyle on Slumdog Millionaire . His new film as director, That Girl in Yellow Boots, will screen as part of LIFF 2011.
