Alice Lowe Selects - Tina Goes Shopping

Alice Lowe
Thursday, 31 January 2019 - 7:00pm
Princess Anne Theatre, 195 Piccadilly, London
Writer, actor and director Alice Lowe selects director Penny Woolcock’s BAFTA nominated TV drama Tina Goes Shopping (1999) and discusses how it’s inspired her own work. The interview will be chaired by writer and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer.

Star and co-writer of bleak comedy Sightseers (2012), Perrier Award winning comedian Alice Lowe graduated from experimental theatre to become a familiar contributor to cult television during the noughties (Mighty Boosh; Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace; IT Crowd; Horrible Histories;  Star Stories). Alice recently debuted as a director with dark revenge fantasy Prevenge (2017). She appears next with Sally Hawkins in romance Eternal Beauty (2019).

Alice has selected Tina Goes Shopping (1999), the BAFTA-nominated inaugural instalment of Penny Woolcock’s Tina Trilogy. This seminal ‘structured reality’ television drama recounts episodes in the chaotic life of its eponymous, shop-lifting single mum (Kelli Hollis). Woolcock recruited her cast from untrained council tenants, reprising the approach of her ground-breaking adaptation Macbeth on the Estate (1997).
