Annette Bening’s on-screen breakthrough came when she starred alongside Anjelica Huston and John Cusack in Stephen Frears’ The Grifters (1990), which earned Bening her first BAFTA nomination. She went on to win for her role in Sam Mendes’ multi award-winning debut, American Beauty (1999), and was nominated a third time for her role opposite Julianne Moore in The Kids Are Alright (2010).
Bening’s recent work includes Michael Mayer’s adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull opposite Saoirse Ronan, Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women and Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply.
