WELSH TENOR TO PERFORM AT THE BRITISH ACADEMY CYMRU AWARDS
BAFTA in Wales is proud to announce that the Welsh tenor, Wynne Evans, will appear as its Guest Artist at this year's awards ceremony.
The acclaimed singer, widely known for his role as the singing impresario, Gio Compario on the television advertisements, will perform live on stage at Wales Millennium Centre during the ceremony on May 29th, 2011.
Originally from Carmarthen, the Cardiff based tenor is now one of the busiest classical singers in the UK. Wynne has performed many major operatic roles at The Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne as well as for Welsh National Opera, English National Opera and Scottish Opera. He is also in great demand at concert recitals across the country and is regularly seen by millions performing before rugby internationals at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. Having signed a six-album deal with Warner Music, he released his first album in March, A Song in My Heart, which reintroduces many Mario Lanza classics and went straight to the No 1 in the classical album charts.
Wynne Evans says:
“It’s a great honour for me to perform at the Welsh BAFTAs, it’s an event I’ve been to on a few occasions but have never been involved in the ceremony. ….I’m so excited! I’m not sure what to sing yet, but it will hopefully be something from the new album.”
Lisa Nesbitt, Director of BAFTA in Wales says:
“We are very excited to have Wynne as our guest artist. He is undoubtedly one of the most popular and successful tenors in the UK right now so we're very pleased he has found time in his busy schedule to come and perform especially for us and our guests. I'm sure he will contribute much to what we hope will be a very special 20th awards ceremony.”
The winners of 26 programme, craft and performance categories will be announced at this year's awards ceremony which will be hosted by Sian Williams and Jason Mohammad.
Some tickets for the ceremony in which Wynne Evans will perform, are still available for the public and these can be bought from Wales Millennium Centre ticket office on 029 2063 6464.
