BAFTA members are invited to a screening of “Precious Life” at The National Library of Wales (Aberystwyth) on Wednesday 25th of May, 2011, at 7pm.
“Precious Life”, a series of films made by first year students at Coleg Ceredigion, shows a fascinating history of Wales seen through the intimate camera lens of the amateur film maker. Devised and produced by media tutor and broadcast editor Sophia Behraki, to give the students experience of working for a real client, with a real deadline”, this real project's initial brief was to promote the National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales.
“The premiere screening of “Precious Life” in March was a great success. Not only did the films created showcase the great variety of amateur film in the Archive's collection, but also displayed all the skills the students have learned during the project.” said Anwen Pari Jones, Access Management and Development Officer of the NSSAW.
Coleg Ceredigion media student Andy Marshall explains - “We wanted to find out something about the lives of the people who were in these old films and something about the lives of the film makers. With the help of the archive we were able to locate and then film interviews with people closely related to the original films and so the project grew.”
The success of “Precious Life” continues to grow. The films were awarded the prestigious Cultural Olympiad Inspire Mark in 2010 and will be screened twice at The Drwm in 2011, before touring Wales as part of the Cultural Olympiad the following year.
We are immensely proud of the students and we are extremely grateful if you are able to come to this screening and informal reception to give the students feedback based on your own professional experience.
BAFTA Cymru have been given an allocation of tickets for Member to attend this screening.
