Film Nation: Shorts is a competition that invites young people (aged 14-25) to make, and vote for, films celebrating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Run in partnership with Panasonic, Film Nation: Shorts will introduce young people to film-making, support them in developing their talent, and give everyone who enters a chance to have their work screened around the UK. Winning films will be screened in front of the crowds in venues during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012.
The competition is accompanied by a UK-wide programme of workshops to provide extra help to young people to begin making films; develop their skills and meet other people to share ideas and develop projects.

An in depth masterclass with talented director Brian Welsh whose powerful film In Our Name opened to critical acclaim at the 2010 London Film Festival and went on to win a British Independent Film Award last year.
In Our Name was written by Brian Welsh after he became interested in reports that women were being involved in front-line combat for the first time in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and at the same time he began to read the many sensational stories about soldiers coming home and struggling to readjust.
This workshop will describe the behind the scenes inspiration, challenges and production processes that have shaped Brian’s Film.
