Channel 4
17 February 10
The Royal Television Society Wales Centre in partnership with the Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries present Disability – Cast Off your prejudice!
14% of the working population is disabled, but how often do we see a wheelchair user or blind person on the box? Channel 4’s recent series Cast Offs appeared to abandon six people with disabilities on a desert island to fend for themselves. It was a spoof, but do we need to shock people to ensure that issues around disability are taken seriously in the media?
Oona King Head of Diversity at Channel 4 and Chair of the Broadcast and Creative Industries Diversity Network talks about the challenges and opportunities for the media both on and off-screen.
