The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today confirmed that both the British Academy Cymru Awards and British Academy Scotland Awards will go ahead in 2020. Both ceremonies will be held, with more details on format being announced later this year, taking into consideration government restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The BAFTA Cymru Awards will take place in October 2020, with nominations and further details on the format of the ceremony to be announced on 3 September 2020.
The BAFTA Scotland Awards will take place in 2020, with more details being announced later this year.
Angharad Mair, BAFTA Cymru Chair and Executive Director of Tinopolis, said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm that the BAFTA Cymru Awards will go ahead in 2020. Welsh creative talent has been crucial to keeping the nation informed and entertained throughout these past few difficult months. The industry has continued to enthusiastically engage with the awards entry process so we feel it is only right to continue our work in 2020 to recognise the excellence in craft, performance and production from creative Welsh talent and productions. We’re proud to have been celebrating the Welsh screen-industries for almost 30 years and I look forward to another fantastic, if not a little different, ceremony in 2020.”
In March 2020, BAFTA held its first digital Awards ceremony, the British Academy Games Awards, which drew an audience of over 900,000. Since then BAFTA has continued to adapt its Award ceremonies in light of Government restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. BAFTA recently announced that the British Academy Television Craft Awards and the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards will both go ahead as closed-studio shows on 17 and 31 July respectively.
