Interested in becoming an Academy member? Find out if you are eligible and how to apply.
Those wishing to join BAFTA should complete a membership
Application Form (0.9 MB) and submit it to the Academy together with a full CV and a passport-sized photograph. Application forms must be completed in full before they can be considered by the Membership Department.
We consider applications once a year, in the Spring, and as membership is capped (see below) there are only a limited number of places available each year. The next deadline for applications is 31 March 2011. Applications may be sent at any time, but will be kept on file and considered together.
We also have branches and affiliates in Glasgow, Cardiff, Los Angeles and New York. Applicants in the US should apply through one of the US branches. Individuals working in Wales or Scotland who are not eligible for full membership may be interested in branch membership, available through the local offices. Please see the tabs at the very top of this page for more detail.
Applicants must currently work and have at least five years professional experience in a creative, technical or executive role directly related to the production of either:

The referees must be familiar with the applicant's professional experience. (This requirement may be waived for applicants who have been nominated for BAFTA Awards in certain categories; please check with the Membership Department before applying).
Applicants must supply a current CV with their applications.
On completion, membership application forms should be returned to the address below.
Applications must be received by 31 March to be considered for the coming year's intake, but we recommend sending an application as soon as it is ready to be kept on file, as this date is subject to change. Successful applicants will take up their membership from June.

The Academy’s voting membership was capped at 6500 in 2005, comprised of 5000 BAFTA members and 1500 members of the US affiliates. Consequently, the Academy can only take a limited number of new members each year.
Whilst we seek individuals who have made a significant contribution to the film, television and video games industries, we also aim to ensure we have a balance of experts from a wide variety of technical disciplines. This means we do sometimes have to turn down applications from areas where we may be over-represented, or when we simply do not have any spaces available for new members.
In addition, as the cap primarily applies to the number of members voting in the Film Awards, new members may not be given the option to vote in the Film Awards immediately upon joining.
Film voting places will be allocated to existing members as they become available. When allocating film voting places, priority will be given to those working in Film and particularly to those working in areas currently under-represented within the Film Voting Membership.
