Rebecca Johnson

After graduating with a fine arts degree, Rebecca became interested in community filmmaking, making numerous short films with theatre workshops in her local Brixton neighbourhood.

This led to making her debut feature, Honeytrap, which premiered at the London Film Festival in 2014, where she was nominated for the Best British Newcomer award. It was released in the UK to critical acclaim, including four-star reviews in The Guardian and Total Film, and went on to be screened on Sky and London Live. The film’s US premiere was at SXSW in 2015, where Rebecca secured US distribution through Ava DuVernay’s Array, and it is currently available on US Netflix.

In 2016, Rebecca began directing for television, starting in the US with Supergirl (Berlanti Productions/Warner). She then added episodes of The Magicians (Groundswell Productions/Syfy), Impulse (NBCUniversal/YouTube Red), The Rook (Carpool Entertainment/Lionsgate/Starz), The Flash (Berlanti Productions/DC Entertainment/WB) and Motherland: Fort Salem (Freeform/Disney). In the UK, she has directed for Call the Midwife (Neal Street Productions/BBC) and The Pact (Little Door Productions/BBC Cymru Wales).

Rebecca was selected as one of Screen International’s Star of Tomorrow in 2009 and in 2016 she was named as one of Hollywood's top 30 rising female directors on the Alice Initiative list.

She is currently developing a slate of television and film projects, including a US-set limited series with Neon Films, the optioned book Vox by Christina Dalcher and several projects with writer Lucie Barat. Rebecca is also attached to direct World War II epic Monica (Sprout Pictures/Eccho Rights) and action film Crasher (Meyers Media Group).
