Mastering Your Craft – BAFTA’s masterclass strand celebrates excellence within the craft areas which support film, television and games. Speakers take a forensic look at their work and the creative decisions which they have made along the way. Highly acclaimed Scottish Director, Paul McGuigan will discuss his work to date, show clips and answer questions. A drinks reception will follow the event.
Paul McGuigan was born in Bellshill, Scotland. Paul spent ten years working as a professional photographer for the fashion and music press before becoming a film and television director. His first feature, the television adaptation of Irvine Walsh's THE ACID HOUSE, put him squarely on the map, winning him the RTS Award for Best Newcomer along with the RTS Award for Best Single Drama and a host of other prizes. Paul followed THE ACID HOUSE with a string of acclaimed features and counts among his credits such films as PUSH, LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN and GANGSTER NO.1. Paul has also directed many successful dramas and documentaries for television including both series of SHERLOCK for BBC1/HARTSWOOD and MONROE for ITV1/Mammoth Screen. He recently completed SCANDAL, a US drama pilot for ABC Studios, created by Shonda Rhimes, and an episode of NBC's SMASH. Paul has just completed Marc Cherry's drama pilot DEVIOUS MAIDS for ABC Studios.
