How to apply for BAFTA Scotland Membership

Interested in becoming a BAFTA Scotland member? Find out if you are eligible and how to apply.

Thank you for showing an interest in becoming a BAFTA Scotland member. We welcome new members every year working across film, games and television and continue to build an academy representing industry excellence, knowledge and experience.


APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP


The deadline for applications for Branch membership is 1 June each year. However, applications will be accepted after the deadline with the approval of BAFTA Scotland.

There are five membership categories for practitioners based in Scotland. Scroll down for membership prices.

  • Associate Membership

Branch membership
​Voting membership of BAFTA Scotland only

This category is available to individuals who:

Have a minimum of three years professional experience in the film, television or video games industries or in any field directly related to them (e.g. research, acting or teaching).

These members are entitled to:

  • Attend weekly preview screenings on Tuesdays in Glasgow and on Thursdays in Edinburgh. (Please note there are no screenings in Edinburgh during the festivals from mid June - early September)
  • Attend all events and special screenings held in Scotland.
  • Voting rights for the British Academy Scotland Awards
  • Preferential rates for British Academy Scotland Awards tickets
  • Members offers with Academy partners which are applicable to Scotland (currently include free admission to Cineworld cinemas, Monday-Thursday).

Branch membership is available at a discounted rate for members living thirty miles or more outside the central belt of Scotland.


Associate Membership
Voting membership of BAFTA Scotland with Associate (non-voting) membership of BAFTA

This category is available to individuals who:

Have a minimum of three years professional experience in the film, television or video games industries or in any field directly related to them (e.g. research, acting or teaching).

These members are entitled to:

  • All rights and benefits of Branch membership as above.
  • Use of the BAFTA members bar and restaurant at 195 Piccadilly in London.
  • Free access to BAFTA screenings and events in England and Wales.
  • Discounts on room hire at 195 Piccadilly.

Associate membership is available at a discounted rate for members living thirty miles or more outside the central belt of Scotland.


Full Membership
Full (voting) membership of BAFTA including voting membership of BAFTA Scotland

This category is available through BAFTA to individuals who:

Are based in Scotland and have worked full-time for at least five years in a creative, technical or executive role directly related to the production of feature films, video games, and television programming broadcast in the UK.
Have made a significant contribution to their sector of the industry.

These members are entitled to:

  • All rights and benefits of Branch and Associate membership as above.
  • Voting rights for the British Academy Film Awards, British Academy Television Awards, British Academy Television Craft Awards, British Academy Children's Awards and British Academy Games Awards.

Full membership is capped, and available places are extremely limited.

The deadline for applications for Full membership is 31 March each year.

Career Starter Membership
Non-voting membership of BAFTA Scotland only

Open to anyone based in Scotland who has less than 3 years professional experience in the film, television and video games industries or in any field directly related to them (e.g Research, acting or teaching). Must be already working in or actively pursuing a career in the industry, or be a recent graduate from a relevant course. Members may remain in this category for a maximum of three years.

These members are entitled to:

  • Attend weekly preview screenings on Tuesdays in Glasgow and Thursdays in Edinburgh. (Please note there are no screenings in Edinburgh during the festivals from mid June - early September)
  • Attend all events and special screenings held in Scotland.

Please note that this type of membership does not include access to Cineworld, Vue and Picture House cinemas. 


Student Membership
Non-voting membership of BAFTA Scotland only

This category is offered to students of film, television and video games studying in Scotland. Students must provide a copy of a current matriculation card as identification.

These members are entitled to:

  • Attend weekly preview screenings on Tuesdays in Glasgow and Thursdays in Edinburgh. (Please note there are no screenings in Edinburgh during the festivals from mid June - early September)
  • Attend all the events and special screenings held in Scotland.

Please note that this type of membership does not include access to Cineworld, Vue and Picture House cinemas. 

The annual deadline for applications for student membership is 30 October.
Membership can be applied for after the deadline with the approval of BAFTA Scotland.

When applying for student membership you MUST include a matriculation card.


Membership Prices 2018/2019

Full Membership: £300.00 (+£25.00 card fee if not returned with a direct debit form)

Associate Membership: £187.50 (+£25.00 card fee if not returned with a direct debit form)

Associate Membership (Country rate): £150.00 (+£25.00 card fee if not returned with a direct debit form)

Branch Membership: £117.50 (+£25.00 card fee if not returned with a direct debit form)

Branch Membership (Country rate): £75.00 (+£25.00 card fee if not returned with a direct debit form)

Career Starter Membership: £50.00

Student Membership: £35.00
