BAFTA in Scotland is committed to helping the students of today become the become the industry of tomorrow. Find out more about our educational festival for students.

Scottish Students on Screen is a one day festival designed to foster stronger links between education and the moving image industries.

Managed by BAFTA and funded by Scottish Screen, the intiative has featured an innovative programme of events for the past 11 years.

The latest event took place on Tuesday 15 March and featured a fantastic series of screenings, workshops and masterclasses providing film students with hints and tips about getting into the industry and using their creative talents to produce truly original work.

2010 Highlights included...

A Game Is A Game Is A Game:

Today’s most popular games can be found on iPhones, web browsers and even inside social networks. Dave Thomson from Denki lead the controversial discussion considering whether these can really be considered ‘games’.

Getting Your Documentaries Seen:

Finlay Pretsell from Scottish Documentary Institute offered advice based on his experience of getting films seen in festivals, cinemas and to industry people globally.

Inventing The Future:

Founder of sub-genre consulting, Brian Newman ran an engaging masterclass in which he focused upon the techniques that filmmakers can use to create new forms of story-telling and improve audiences and revenue in their field.

Red Kite Animation — Inside The Industry:

This hands-on beginners workshop was designed to introduce students to the techniques employed in the animation industry. Participants got stuck in working with 3D model stop motion, 2D puppet cut-outs and 2D digital animation.

From Script To Screen:

Mark Leese spoke about the creative process involved in establishing the look of a film. Mark, who worked as Production Designer on the BAFTA winning This is England by Shane Meadows gave an insightful and informative talk.
