The event began with Scottish film and TV producer Richard discussing his career and his fascinating experience as producer for the highly-acclaimed drama True Detective. Richard primarily began working in the music industry as a Talent Scout for Island Records after a chance encounter in London with the founder of the record label Chris Blackwell, before moving to LA and producing music videos for the bands he was working alongside. The producer went on to become a partner for production and management company Anonymous Content which led him to work on many films and tv series’, beginning with 2008’s 44 INCH CHEST, starring Ray Winstone, Iain McShane, John Hurt and Tom Wilkinson, and culminating in developing and producing the ongoing multi-award winning HBO drama True Detective.
Amongst other projects, Richard explained that he has just completed work on the film The Revenant, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (Birdman) and starring Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio which is to be released on Christmas Day, and a James Ellroy original series called Gemstone, which David Mackenzie (Starred Up) will direct. Host Sarah Brown, Head of Drama at STV, opened the discussion to Richard's perspective on the evolution of the television industry due to the rise in streaming distribution platforms, and invited questions from the audience.
