New Director of BAFTA in Scotland Announced

We are delighted to announce Jude MacLaverty as the incoming director of BAFTA in Scotland.

BAFTA in Scotland DirectorsIn the position Jude will oversee the management and development of BAFTA’s work in Scotland including the annual British Academy Scotland Awards and New Talent Awards, while creating new initiatives encompassing education, screenings, practical workshops and taking BAFTA in Scotland nation wide.

Jude will take the post from January 2011 following maternity leave.

A well respected figure in Scotland’s creative community, Jude brings 15 years of arts and media experience to the role. After graduating from the Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in fine art, Jude has held roles at the List magazine, the Cameo Cinema, the Traverse Theatre, Glasgow 1999: City of Architecture and Design and has also served as BAFTA Scotland’s events manager in the past.

Jude is currently Festival Producer at the Celtic Media Festival, an annual three-day celebration of broadcasting, film talent and excellence from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany.

Ewan Angus, chair of the board at BAFTA in Scotland, said: “I’m delighted with the appointment of Jude. I am confident that her knowledge, passion and reputation will help BAFTA Scotland forge new links with the wider industry across Scotland, and open up a wealth of new opportunities.”

Catherine Murtagh, Director of the Dolls House arts & media consultancy, based in Glasgow has been appointed Projects Director for BAFTA in Scotland and will oversee the Directors role until December 2010, including the prestigious British Academy Scotland awards, and the BAFTA in Scotland Interview at the Edinburgh International Film Festival which took place in June.

Catherine recently produced Scottish Students on Screen at the CCA in Glasgow, and the New Talent Awards Ceremony for BAFTA in Scotland.
