BAFTA Los Angeles 3-0 Hermosa FC
Julian Stone's brace and a tremendous performance from the defense carried BAFTA Los Angeles to a comfortable victory in a friendly on the big Balboa pitch. Against the run of play midway through the first half, Roy Vasich received a perfect ball to feet from Nico and sent Stone in with a perfect back-heel. Stone finished clinically and BAFTA led 1-0 at the break. After chasing the game for much of the first half, BAFTA Los Angeles dominated the last 45 and the result could have been much heavier but for numerous brilliant saves from the Hermosa keeper. Vasich, Paul Tamasy and Tryan George were carving up the visitors' back line, but the second wouldn't come until Nico drove home a 25-yard blast that earned the keeper's compliments. Tryan and Hench were... both denied point-blank on a remarkable double-save after Stone had slid Tryan through, and Hench had a thumping header off a Stone corner parried away by the sprawling keeper moments later. Kevin Parry intercepted a pass down his wing and played a long ball to Vasich whose composed square ball found Stone in acres at the top of the box. After seeing several impressive saves from the Hermosa keeper Stone drilled an unstoppable no-doubter into the upper 90 to put the game away. Hermosa did have an excellent opportunity to ruin the clean sheet, but Tommy LaPorte made a tremendous double-save of his own, sprawling to tip away a shot from the edge of the box and then recovering to smother the point-blank rebound attempt. To keep a clean sheet on a pitch that size with so much room for strikers to roam is testament to the phenomenal work rate of defenders Matty Wiseman, Ashley Berns, Jon Griggs, Bill Howes, Neal Perrett, Claude Frisch and the relentless Muru who once again dominated the middle of the pitch.
