This year BAFTA Los Angeles celebrates its twenty fifth anniversary, giving us a chance to reflect on an illustrious quarter century, and to take pride in the organization we have become.
BAFTA Los Angeles was founded in 1987 with a straightforward mission statement: To celebrate and promote excellence in our craft here in the home of filmmaking.
Over a thousand screenings, 54 Britannia Awards, 25 Garden Parties, and 27 Tea Parties later, we continue to strive towards this original goal, while also working to forge bonds with the greater Los Angeles community, giving back in a truly meaningful way to our adoptive city.
Our outreach program has become a great source of pride for us. From our movie screening program and Christmas Party at Helen Keller Park in South LA, to our Student Film Awards celebrating the work of young filmmakers from Southern California’s top film schools, BAFTA LA is more committed than ever to its charitable and educational pursuits.
But we haven’t done all of this alone. It has required the incredible volunteerism of our 1200-strong membership, the enduring support of our event and annual sponsors and our close relationships with businesses and individuals both here in Los Angeles and around the world, to grow this organization into a thriving hub for great British talent and a vital link between the US and British entertainment communities.
BAFTA Los Angeles is proud of our 25 years so far, and together with our BAFTA colleagues in London and New York, we look forward to the next quarter century with much excitement. We thank you for joining us on this journey.
