A household name thanks to the hugely popular ITV series Callan (1967-72), Woodward also starred as the doomed policeman in The Wicker Man (1973). He enjoyed further television success in The Equalizer (1985-89) and Common As Muck (1994-97), with his other films including Breaker Morant (1980) and Hot Fuzz (2007).
