A regular on ITV's quickfire, quip driven comedy show The Comedians (1971), Williams was a much loved figure with his easygoing manner and broad Yorkshire accent, and a black comic who offered an eloquent counterpoint to the casual racism of others. He also presented the gameshow The Golden Shot (1973).
