As the writer of several popular thrillers, Westlake was used to seeing his work adapted for the screen, occasionally tackling the job himself. Films derived from his novels include Point Blank (1967) and The Hot Rock (1972), while The Grifters (1990) was his Oscar-winning screenplay from Jim Thompson’s book.
