Joining Gaumont British News in 1936, Turner was on hand to record some historical moments in an age before television became widespread. These included Chamberlain's return from Munich in 1938 proclaiming 'peace in our time', the sinking of the battleship HMS Barham in 1941 and the funeral of Mahatma Gandhi.
