Formerly camera operator to Nic Roeg, Thomson became a cinematographer in his own right with Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush (1967). His major credits include Excalibur (1981), Eureka (1984), Legend (1985), Labyrinth (1986), The Krays (1990), Alien 3 (1992), Cliffhanger (1993), Hamlet (1996) and Love's Labours Lost (2000).
