Those who attended the BAFTA Goes To Mexico event in 2007 may remember the hauntingly dignified presence of one handed violinist Tavira as the unlikely star of Francisco Vargas’ political drama El Violin (2005). This tale followed a documentary Vargas had previously made about Tavira’s own life, Tierra Caliente (2002).
