An American character actress best known for one enduring role, Stapleton played Edith, long suffering wife of the bigoted Archie Bunker in the sitcom All In The Family (1971-79). She appeared in the spin-off Archie Bunker’s Place (1979-83) as well as movies including Michael (1996) and You’ve Got Mail (1998).
