A British actress of great poise and grace, Sheridan made her name in films such as The Sound Barrier (1952), Gilbert & Sullivan (1953), Genevieve (1953) and The Railway Children (1970). She was busier still on television, with her best known work including the popular sitcom Don’t Wait Up (1983-90).
