An experimental filmmaker who frequently offered a controversial commentary on his German homeland, Schlingensief came to attention with a trilogy of films; Hundert Jahre Adolf Hitler (1989), Das deutsche Kettensägenmassaker(1990) and Terror 2000 (1992). Also active in theatre and a wider artistic forum, his later films include Freakstars 3000 (2004).
