An influential American filmmaker from the 1960s onward, Penn proved particularly adept at portraying characters on the margins of society. His best known work includes The Left Handed Gun (1958), The Miracle Worker (1962), The Chase (1966), the multiple BAFTA nominated Bonnie & Clyde (1967) and Little Big Man (1970).
