Success as a National Hunt jockey led to Oaksey turning to journalism, becoming racing correspondent of The Daily Telegraph in 1957 when his riding career was still in full swing. He later fronted television racing coverage as a commentator and interviewer on ITV from 1969 and Channel 4 from 1984.
