Working under visual effects maestro Derek Meddings on such Gerry Anderson series as Thunderbirds (1965-66), Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons (1967-68) and Joe 90 (1968), Scots-born Mitton later brought his expertise to bear on Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends (1984-2003) directing all, and writing some, of 182 episodes.
