An influential fantasy author, Matheson saw his 1954 novel I Am Legend filmed three times, as The Last Man On Earth (1964), The Omega Man (1971) and, as originally titled, in 2007. He wrote classic episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959-64) and movies including The Raven (1963) and Duel (1971).
