Although part of an illustrious Hollywood family Mankiewicz made an impact in the UK with screenplays for Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Live & Let Die (1973) and a significant contribution to Superman (1978). He helped create the tv series Hart To Hart (1979-84) and was writer-director of Dragnet (1987).
