As head of religious programmes for BBC Scotland between 1973 and 1989, Mackenzie was responsible for innovative and popular series such as Eighth Day and Voyager. He had previously been executive producer of religious programmes at ABC TV, creating such series as Looking For An Answer and From Inner Space.
