Making his name in television drama, Mackenzie was BAFTA nominated for Just Another Saturday (1970) and A Sense of Freedom (1979). His best known film was The Long Good Friday (1979), with other features including Unman, Wittering & Zigo (1971), The Honorary Consul (1983) and When The Sky Falls (2000).
