An actor prominent in the blaxploitation films of the early 1970s, Lockhart's early credits include Cotton Comes To Harlem (1970), Melinda (1972), Uptown Saturday Night (1974) and Honeybaby, Honeybaby (1974). He also acted with the RSC, and played the lead in the Amicus horror film The Beast Must Die (1974).
