A prolific French director and screenwriter who specialised in cops-and-robbers and comedy movies, Lautner’s films often found commercial success in his home country. He notably directed the cult Monsieur Gangster (1963) and The Professional (1981), and the Cannes Film Festival staged a ‘Homage to Georges Lautner’ in 2012.
