At the very beginning of his career, composer and musical arranger James provided piano accompaniment to silent films at the Savoy Cinema in Uxbridge. Years later he collaborated with Charlie Chaplin on the music for the films A King In New York (1957) and The Countess From Hong Kong (1967).
