An urbane and versatile presenter, Jacobs had been an actor with roles in Little Women (1950) on television and Journey Into Space (1953-58) on radio. But he found enduring popularity presenting hit tv shows such as Juke Box Jury (1959-67), Top of the Pops (1964), and What’s My Line? (1973).
