After gaining experience with the GPO Film Unit – later the Crown Film Unit – Jackson scored a great critical hit with his documentary style drama about the heroism of merchant seamen in wartime, Western Approaches (1944). His other work includes the features White Corridors (1951) and What A Carve Up! (1961).
