An influential performer and in later years a cabaret star, Horne’s career began in an era of racial segregation. After signing a long term contract at MGM she appeared in musicals including Thousands Cheer (1943), Cabin in the Sky (1943), Stormy Weather (1943) and Till The Clouds Roll By (1946).
