Forever associated with the po-faced headmaster mocked by members of The Breakfast Club (1985), a role he reprised on at least three further occasions, Gleason was an engaging character actor adept at playing the dramatic foil to far starrier names. Other credits included Trading Places (1983) and Die Hard (1988).
