A founding member of the Mickey Mouse Club (1955) on American television, Funicello was so popular she was given her own series, Annette (1958). She also starred in a popular series of films opposite heartthrob singer Frankie Avalon, including Beach Party (1963), Bikini Beach (1964) and Beach Blanket Bingo (1965).
