A producer and director of several acclaimed arts programmes, most notably on the subjects of music or architecture, Drummond's greatest success came in management roles. Most notably he was the general manager of the Edinburgh festival between 1977 and 1982, and Controller of BBC Radio 3 between 1987 and 1992.
