BBC newsman Donkin worked in print journalism then radio before moving into television with regular reports on the flagship teatime news programme Nationwide (1980). He later worked on the revamped Six O’Clock News (1993) and was a regular face across BBC News thereafter, displaying a particular interest in foreign affairs.
