An underground photographer, artist and filmmaker, Conner thrived during the counterculture era, beginning his screen career in earnest with the short Movie (1958). Other works dealt with themes of viewer perception, nuclear angst and the US military and include Breakaway (1966), Report (1967), Crossroads (1976) and America Is Waiting (1981).
